Children’s House, Casa dei Bambini, Childrens’ House, Kinderhaus, Maison des Enfants and in Mayan Language Otoch Paal.
Among the thousands of paragraphs in which Maria Montessori expressed her desire to give an Education for Life to humanity in a state of chaos, she let us understand the great responsibility that the environment has in the education of the child.
Everything that the child sees, smells, touches, hears, everything is absorbed and stored in himself, thus forming his own personality. She called it Prepared Environment: an environment in which the child can fully develop the capacities that already exist in him to perform his main task: the creation of man.
The environment is not made up only of objects, but of beings that transmit their essence through words and actions. The prepared environment is a classroom with everything necessary for the child to explore, a classroom with materials that allow him to absorb knowledge through its manipulation, a classroom in which teachers are guides who observe attentively and are ready to provide what is necessary, only when action is required.
In the Otoch Paal Community Center, this Montessori Environment has been prepared in which children absorb life and form man from his own essence. Following the Montessori Philosophy, a group of dedicated women with the awareness of serving the child to achieve their goal, work hard to provide what is necessary to more than one hundred children from low-income families of the Mayan community of Akumal, in the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico.
The atmosphere is a succession of concentric circles that increase as they move away from the starting point. In this case, the starting point is the children of Akumal and the circle of their environment is enlarged until it reaches you who read us. To you who can help to continue keeping alive the spirit of solidarity that made it possible for this project to start and bear fruit day after day.
