About

This project inspired by the program of Educators without Borders of AMI, has the purpose of providing a disadvantaged child population of the municipality of Morelia, a Montessori Education internationally recognized for its benefits that not only affect the positive development of children who attend directly, but also permeate family values,  of community and the world in general.

We work to:

  • Establish 6 Montessori Environments of Children’s House in a complete scheme that serves 150 children, two in each room and two in Communities.
  • Modify the educational approach with the Montessori essence:
    • In 9 communities with children aged 3 to 6, approximately 250 children.
    • In children’s rooms with children from 3 months to 3 years, distributed in 12 rooms, approximately 220 children.

We have different supports:

  • From the municipal DIF of Morelia, to provide the children who are under its shelter with a more humanistic education:
    • Giving work facilities to all staff to receive the necessary Montessori training.
    • Providing the economic resource to acquire the furniture, the materials in accordance with the Montessori Philosophy and make some adjustments in the facilities.
    • Organizational, to move what is necessary in its regular structure of working and functioning around the new approach with children.
  • From the Villa Montessori International Center, which awarded 5 full scholarships to the pedagogical coordinators of its programs, to carry out the Montessori Guides Training of Casa de los Niños.
  • From the International Montessori Association, which agreed not to receive any percentage for the realization of a Montessori Orientation Course for the 73 people who work in the different Work Centers and coordinated by the Villa Montessori International Center.

Where are we?

Training:

  • People who are taking the Montessori Guides Training Course of Casa de los Niños will finish in the month of August 2023.
  • For all staff, the AMI Montessori Orientation Course was taught, from September 2022 to January 2023.
  • Currently we continue to work twice a week only with those responsible for each group of 3 to 6 years, with the idea of giving them more elements in the area of Practical Life, Expression and Spoken Language.
  • In the same way with the holders of the levels of 0 to 3 years, on different days.

Work in the centers and communities:

We hold periodic coordination meetings with the Directors of the three Centers: CASVI, CIEDIM and CAIC, to agree or resume necessary routes and tasks in the progress of the project.

At the same time, work began in the different Centers, regarding the change of daily dynamics and they have been adapting the furniture that was there, acquiring those that are needed and organizing the work areas little by little as the training progresses.

To date, the change in the daily dynamics of approach to children is already noticeable, with great enthusiasm from children, staff, parents and authorities.

All the staff has contributed to the development of the materials made by the Guide, and we are waiting for the Montessori materials to begin to arrive for the six Environments that will work with the entire program.

I think the most pleasant thing is the illusion that is felt in each little step taken by all the sectors involved … Seeing how the Environments are transformed and the approach to each group of children.
