Lagunero Institute of Hearing and Language

About

The Instituto Lagunero de la Audición y el Lenguaje A.C. (ILAL), was founded on April 20, 1954, by Dr. Alfonso Garibay Fernández (otolaryngologist), being the first school for the deaf in the province and the second in the whole country. Since then, an average of 50 children and young people have been cared for each year.

We are the only Institute in the states of Coahuila and Durango that works to provide specialized training and education to deaf children and young people and integrate them into society. Giving them an integral education based on the Montessori Method and Philosophy from Children’s House to Workshop II, since it is a method that helps the learning of the deaf person through the materials takes them from the concrete to the abstract, we also carry a bilingual and bicultural education since it is the only disability that has its own culture and language.

From Workshop II we have traditional Secondary and High School, transitioning in the first Montessori to a traditional method and in the second providing tools for an academic and labor adaptation to achieve an integration with the hearing society.

We provide the following workshops:

  • Robotics
  • Parenting Sign Lessons
  • Kitchen
  • Sport
  • Computation

Our mission is to provide integral education to deaf children and young people, offering them the necessary academic, social and emotional tools, so that in the future they can integrate into society as independent adults and can perform in their daily lives and obtain a dignified and productive job.
